Following on from the exceptional Olympic Games in London 2012 and in Rio 2016, the Government has pledged to ensure that the legacy of the games lives on and children across the country are inspired to take up sports. As a result of this, the government has pledged money to every school to support the teaching and learning of PE and to encourage as many children into sport as possible.
At Covingham Park Primary School, we aim to develop confidence and skills in PE, promote fair play and respect whilst striving for excellence as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle. Crucially, we also strive to ensure that all of our children enjoy being active. We have welcomed the government's pledge to provide Primary Schools with additional sports funding. We aim to provide children at our school with high quality PE lessons as well as greater opportunities for sporting achievement for all pupils. We aim to benefit all children regardless of their sporting ability. “Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this” (DfE, June 2013)
