Our School Council is a group of pupils who have been democratically elected by their peers and given the responsibility of representing the views of all our pupils. We strongly believe that pupil voice is an important part of our school community, and our School Council provides a meaningful way for children to help shape school life. They are also joined by our Head Boy and Head Girl, who are elected by our staff.

The School Council works on projects that they feel are important to further improve our school community. Over the last couple of years, these have included organising charity events, promoting healthier food choices at breaktimes through whole-school assemblies and pupil-led initiatives, and working on projects to enhance our school grounds.

This year, One of the School Council's key projects this year was to explore ways to enhance lunchtimes in Lower School. After gathering ideas and suggestions from their classmates, the councillors proposed introducing a team of Playleaders to help organise games and activities, encourage friendships and ensure everyone has someone to play with. The School Council carefully discussed how the initiative would work, listened to feedback from their peers and developed the project together. Demonstrating excellent leadership and commitment, the School Council members generously gave up their own lunchtimes to take on the role of Playleaders, helping to make lunchtimes a more enjoyable and inclusive experience for everyone.

Throughout the year, the School Council meets every week to discuss issues that are important to our pupils, share ideas and feedback gathered from their classmates, and plan how to implement projects that will make a positive difference to our school. Working alongside staff, the councillors develop their ideas into meaningful actions, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to have their voice heard and contribute to decisions that affect school life.

Each year, the School Council democratically elects two School Councillors to represent our school as members of the Blue Kite Pupil Parliament. This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to work alongside representatives from all the schools within the Blue Kite Academy Trust, sharing ideas and collaborating on projects that benefit pupils across the Trust.

As part of their role, our Blue Kite Pupil Parliament representatives attend meetings, have the exciting opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament to learn more about democracy and leadership, and work together with pupils from across the Trust to make a positive difference.

At the end of the academic year, our representatives proudly present the achievements of our School Council to an audience including the Mayor of Swindon, the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Kite Academy Trust, representatives from all the Trust schools, and invited guests. This special celebration takes place at the Swindon Chamber and gives our pupils the opportunity to showcase the wonderful work they have completed throughout the year while developing their confidence, presentation and leadership skills.

Being a member of the School Council is an excellent opportunity for pupils to develop valuable life skills, including leadership, teamwork, communication, organisation, problem-solving and public speaking. Members learn how to listen to the views of others, work collaboratively, and take responsibility for making a positive difference within our school.

We are incredibly proud of our School Council and the enthusiasm, creativity and commitment its members show in making our school an even better place to learn, play and grow.
