What is SMSC?
SMSC stands for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. All schools in England must show how well their pupils develop in SMSC.
SMSC at Covingham Park Primary
Each term we focus on a topic for PSHE, and children reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
With regards to SMSC we have termly assemblies addressing many areas including our British values. All classes are taught our British values and we address current issues appropriately within year groups.
We celebrate our differences and educate the children on the many cultures we have in Britain. We educate our children on the importance of democracy and we vote on many school issues such as our school council. We share with children the importance of rules and how these keep us safe, we are clear about why rules are needed and we link this with our British society.
