Intent
At Covingham Park Primary School we aim to inspire a passion for music through exposure to a wide range of musical genres as well as inspiring creativity and self-expression through hands-on musical activities. Curiosity is nurtured by encouraging children to ask questions and explore the origins and stories behind the music they hear and play. Children develop resilience by having opportunities to practice and perform in collaborative projects. By the end of Key Stage 2 children will leave Covingham, not only having an appreciation and enjoyment of music, but also to have developed the resilience to tackle musical challenges with enthusiasm and a sense of achievement.
We employ specialist music teachers to teach whole class instrumental and composition lessons in some year groups and also have individual instrumental tuition available with teachers from Swindon Music Co-Operative available at parents' request (a charge is made for this).
Please use your child's year group page to find out what they are learning about each half term in this subject.
Music Development Plan
Listening and Appraising.
We try to include as much listening into the school day as possible to expose the children to a wide range of musical styles and genres.Â
Children will listen to a piece of music as they come in and leave assembly; it will be the same piece of music each day for a week with a focus element for the term.Â
