Geography

From the moment we are born, our instinct drives us to explore the world around us using all our senses. Geography at Covingham inspires, promotes, and ignites a curiosity and fascination about the world our children live in and its people. Through our knowledge-rich and expansive curriculum, we empower our pupils to confidently understand, question, and become resilient in their surroundings.

As pupils progress through Covingham, they will expand their geographical skills, understanding, and fieldwork. They will deepen their locational knowledge, enhance their comprehension of human and physical geography, and explore the connections between these processes.

In fostering cultural capital, we enrich our pupils' understanding of diverse cultures and societies, helping them appreciate the complexity and beauty of our world. As global citizens, we aim to instil a sense of environmental responsibility in all our pupils, encouraging them to understand and engage with environmental issues on both local and global scales.

We believe that geography provides a foundation for learning valuable, transferable skills that will serve our pupils well beyond KS2 and into their future careers.

IMPLEMENTATION

  • The National Curriculum provides the basis for our studies, with the curriculum being personalised to the needs of our pupils and the location of our school.
  • Field work is an important aspect of geographical studies and is carried out both locally and further afield.

IMPACT
By having a whole term intense focus on Geography throughout the year will enable children to broaden their understanding of geographical skills and deepen their understanding of the world around us.

Below is an overview of the progression of skills to be taught throughout each key stage and each year group.
